Associate Architect

Our client enjoys a reputation as an innovative practice, focused on the design and delivery of complex buildings for corporate, institutional and government clients. Underpinned by the Directors’ 30 years of combined experience, the practice has become known for producing creative but rigorously tested solutions carefully aligned, through a collaborative approach, with client needs and aspirations. Their technical expertise is based on local and international experience, including the construction technologies applicable to commercial office towers, research hospitals, housing developments, transport infrastructure and public outdoor spaces.

This role represents a rare opportunity to join a medium size practice that is collegiate in its approach to staff and believes in providing staff with diversity, creativity and autonomy.  Their innovative approach has led them to winning large commercial contracts and establishing themselves as a quality provider of architectural services.

Your duties will include:

  •  Assist the Project Director(s) to lead and manage architectural teams through the architectural design process to ensure that quality buildings are delivered within client budgets and timeframes.
  • Plan resources and produce a project resource plan with the Project Director in charge.
  • Manage project fees and, in conjunction with the project accountant, monitor against the Project Plan. Ensure that fees due are billed monthly (or in accordance with the appointment agreement)
  • Manage project expenses and, in conjunction with the project accountant, monitor against the Project Plan.
  • Provide reports to the Directors
  • Ensure that all members of the project team understand their responsibilities and carry out activities in accordance with company procedures
  • Direct all design, documentation and certification activities on a project.
  • Allocate tasks to each member of the team and monitor their work
  • Ensure that team is motivated, happy and productive
  • Manage sub-consultants and co-ordinate and integrate their work into the design.
  • Liaise with Client's project representatives.
  • Compile submissions for approval and negotiate as appropriate
  • Review drawings to verify the design and sign the drawings before external issue
  • Liaison with building contractors, project and construction managers.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Must have a minimum of 10 years experience working on large building projects including above duties
  • Very good people management skills
  • Across the board experience in the entire design and construction process
  • Up to date and hands on experience with computers and architectural software
  • Must have appropriate registration (local or international)
  • Whilst not essential overseas experience will be highly regarded
