Our client is a technology company based in North Sydney with a large overseas parent. As part of a strategic review of operations they are looking for a Financial Controller to help them through the next period of growth (organic and acquisition).
The Financial Controller is a key member of the management team with responsibility for all aspects of financial and management accounting and operations for the Australian and New Zealand subsidiaries and ensuring a stable platform of financial capabilities, systems and processes to support the growing business objectives of the company.
This role represents a genuine opportunity to join a company that has been enjoying significant growth rates and is on course to continue doing so. You will have at least 5 years experience working for a mid-tier company (T.O. between $5 to $10 million) selling project based services.
This role reports directly to the Group CEO based in Sydney and has 1 direct report.
Duties and Responsibilities – include;
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Develop the Finance function and implement accounting processes and procedures that meet the local and International needs for the Group
- Oversee all functions in Great Plains including payroll, invoice processing, contract management, accounts receivable & payable, expense processing, banking, FX, BAS, Payroll tax and superannuation
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of the data within the accounting systems and the veracity of reported results and that all financial accounting is in line with relevant accounting standards
- Deliver month end information in accordance with required timelines including P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash flow and variances to budget for each subsidiary and provide analysis to CEO
Commercial Management & Business Operations
- Work with the management team to refine the end-end processes for handling orders to minimise administration overheads and handling errors
- Assist with preparation of budgets ensuring compliance to Group timelines and process and manage all grant applications
Compliance
- Ensure all commercial activities comply with relevant statutory obligations, in particular accounting, legal, taxation, ASIC , insurance and reporting requirements and manage all required lodgments
- Work with the Parent company to co-ordinate and manage the local component of audit process
Skills and Attributes required for this role:
- Minimum 5 years experience as a Financial Controller for a mid-tier company
- Track record of reporting directly to an MD or CEO
- Strong commercial acumen and all round accounting experience including financial control, cash flow forecasting, compliance, tax, reporting and budgeting
- Previous experience working with a large accounting system such as Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains, SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards (not MYOB/Quicken). Preference will be given to experience with Great Plains.

- Experience working in technology sector with project based accounting needs

Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent.
- CPA or CA qualifications or near completion.
